What it is: New supercar, Porsche 918, 2014 that will be launched as a Spyder with a removable top and as a hybrid. Later, a body Coupe and racing versions could be added.
Why it matters: This car is the spiritual successor of 959 eighties and almost ten years old but not forgotten Carrera GT. The name also evokes memories of 918 model car racing infamous 917. This new supercar is showcase of the latest technology of Porsche, will be the company's most expensive car and is designed to offer extreme performance and efficiency simultaneously.
Platform: As the Carrera GT, 918 is an extremely low to mid engine supercar. The 918 Spyder is built on a standalone platform, but we feel that share components with the 911.
Engines:Propulsion is by a naturally aspirated, 9000-plus-rpm 4.6-liter V-8 with 570 hp, a rear electric motor with approximately 120 CV and an electric motor combined with front of about 110 hp. at 770 hp. Contest: The air is thin in this price segment; There will be fully electric and therefore much less usable competitors like the Audi R8 e-tron and the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell; the car will also be compared with other Supercars, Lamborghini Aventador LP700 as-4 and the successor of the McLaren F1.
What could go wrong: Even if you handle three different sources is extremely challenging, we have undoubtedly Porsche will pull out. But is this hybrid supercar thing looking for buyers? Many will keep in a garage at a controlled temperature, while others will want to take on the track; but who wants to drive on electrons only with this type of car? Don't worry too much, though, this thing is going to kick ass.
Estimated arrival time and price: Try the 918 in 2013 or early 2014 end, priced at about $ 850,000. A total of 918 examples will be produced and not one more — at least the original body style. If the name is found on the bottom of the waiting list future-918-owners, Porsche will offer exclusive rights to purchase one of the 911 Turbo S Edition models 918 Spyder — even with a maximum of 918 units to be built — to keep you entertained whilst your 918 is prepared. At $ 161,650, it is a must for any owner 918; or at least so suppose the logic goes for buyers in this market segment.
